Kentucky Fried Servo!

Monday, April 14th, 2014

Recently I ordered a batch of 50 TowerPro MG995 servos for HexPi and other robots.

  • 4 of the servos had a broken mounting tab
  • one servo went up in smoke (it had a broken tab)

Seriously? Where is the quality control?

I’ve tested 18 other servos, and they seem fine, but now I have to test the other 28 servos to make sure they don’t have the defect that caused one to go up in smoke.

Would you believe a soic-8 integrated circuit was installed incorrectly?

RoboPi User Manual v0.51

Saturday, March 29th, 2014

I’ve uploaded a new revision of the RoboPi User Manual.

This version adds more sample code, explanation of the PWM calls, and how to use a Sharp IR distance sensor.

You can find it on the RoboPi product page, towards the bottom of the page.

I’ve uploaded the initial RoboPiLib to the RoboPi product page

https://www.mikronauts.com/raspberry-pi/robopi/

This is the initial version of the library, and will be expanded over time. I intend to release the source code after I’ve cleaned it up and added more error checking and comments 🙂

You need to have the RoboPi firmware installed on RoboPi in order for the library to work.

There is also an early version of the RoboPi user manual on the product page.

I will keep updating the documentation, library and add demo programs.

Coming soon: videos of my RoboPi based robots!
