LeMaker Guitar Review
Operating Systems
(click on image for larger version)
- Ubuntu Mate (Ubuntu without Unity)
- Lemuntu (LeMaker’s Ubuntu with LXDE)
- LeMedia (LeMaker’s port of Kodi)
- Android v3.1
Multimedia
While the Guitar presents a 1080p (1920×1080@60Hz) signal on its HDMI connector, the desktop runs at 1024×600, which is upscaled to 1080p.
Kodi
I will update this section of the review as soon as I have a proper 1080p display, as there is no point in trying to and test how well Kodi plays back 1080p video while it is really only rendering to 1024×600.
Software Compatibility

For all tests and benchmarks I used the version of Lemuntu that came installed on the Guitar SOM’s, however I did update them with:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
The Guitar felt snappy for desktop operations, however the lack of decorations and chosen theme makes the windows on the desktop (IMHO) look ugly.
I am afraid the web browser is slow and ugly. I was not surprised when it was unable to play YouTube videos. I’ll revisit YouTube once I get Chromium running on the Guitar.

Here is the ‘About’ window of the web browser:

For now, I suggest you
sudo apt-get install iceweasel
to get a better web browser.
Unfortunately the file browser does not recognize smb shares – not even after I installed smb.
